About the Member Show Challenge:
Each year, Hudson Heritage Quilters members are invited to participate in a creative challenge, and the results are always a show favorite! Our 2025 theme is “A Modern Twist on a Traditional Block.” Each member who signs up receives a mystery envelope with one traditional block as their starting point. The finished piece must be no larger than 24" x 24" but how you transform it is entirely up to you.
Special Call to Members: Encourage the young makers in your life to submit a quilt in the Youth Connections category! Whether it's their first project or a joint effort, every youth entry helps nurture the next generation of quilters.

November 8-9, 2025
📍 River Crest Elementary School, Hudson, WI
🕘 Open 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM both days
What Does “Modern”
Mean, Anyway?
Modern quilting is all about personal expression, clean lines, and creative freedom. While there's no single definition, modern quilts often include:
-
Bold colors and high contrast
-
Creative use of negative space
-
Unconventional layout or asymmetry
-
Minimalism or graphic impact
-
Improvisational piecing or playful scale
Modern quilting doesn’t mean abandoning tradition, it means bending the rules and making them your own. Whether you go minimalist, maximalist, or somewhere in between, your “modern twist” is up to you. There’s no right or wrong — just your imagination at work.
